Plethora of Updates

Wow, I read back on those last couple of posts and I can't help but feel shocked at how long ago that feels. Both Darryl and I are feeling so wonderful about our decision. We cant believe that we lasted so long in the other program. We were ready for the switch and we feel better. So much so that I forgot to update all my paperwork which should have been done so when the agency called on December 22 to let us know that the Ministry of Ontario had approved us, they gently reminded me that they were WAITING ON ME!!! Can you believe it? I held up our adoption by 2 weeks because the paperwork that we were responsible for completely slipped my mind.

Me : "Darryl, I am so sorry. I can't believe this happened! I can't believe I forgot about the adoption!!

Darryl: "No problem - it was just nice having you back to normal again"

And I have to admit - it was nice for me too. I wasn't obsessing like a crazy woman. I was just living as if I forgot about that. Living without adoption is something that I haven't done for a while and it felt good. I thought that this Christmas was going to be really hard but to be honest it was a welcome distraction. We had a great time and because I had 3.5 weeks vacation, I visited friends and family that I have been seriously neglecting over the last year.

So, it has been a while since I posted but here is where we are at in the adoption:
- December 22 - Ministry of Ontario Approval
- January 5 - File goes to Ottawa!! - Wait 2-4 weeks for the approval from Ottawa.

To catch you up on my life:
- got bangs and new highlights - quite cute really
- hosted 12 people for Christmas - had a great time
- Darryl gave me a beautiful necklace and the Charm is an African pendant with a heart where Ethiopia is (he was adequately rewarded but the details are too personal to post) Go http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19052512 if you want to see it
- went up north and hung with the fams - loved the snow - felt like a little person in a snowglobe
- drove 4 hours to Windsor and had a much needed dose of family - loved it
- spent new year's at a wedding which was the BEST but then Darryl got sick and we had to leave by 10pm so I spent the countdown by myself playing Zelda on the Wii
-got the paperwork for the adoption done and had the world notarized - AGAIN
-did minimal cleaning
-did lots of cooking (which I love)
- loved up my dog

So, we are headed to Cuba on Sunday and I thought - hey, it is probably time for a full piece bathing suit (which I haven't worn since I was about 3 years old). I am thinking I can't get away with the two piece anymore. I tried on a bunch of full bathing suits and it turns out that they don't make them for tall people so the cups come to right under my breasts so it looks like I have four boobs which admittedly would be a great distraction from the size of my belly but I am a little worried about looking like my bathing suit doesn't fit rather that having double the boob fun so I opted for a bikini with a really great wrap. Who knew????? The whole thing would pose a whole new problem too - would I have to have cups for the cups?????

I just came across your blog via another blog and read your post about switching countries and I just wanted to say how sorry I am that your Zambian adoption did not happen. I know that when you choose a country to adopt from, your whole focus becomes about that country and that process and that particular child and to lost that is such a hard thing. It does sound like it was the only possible decision under the circumstances though and I hope that all your paperwork flies through the necessary steps on its way to Ethiopia. Our dossier has been there for just over 9 months awaiting a sibling referral. Welcome to the Ethiopian adoption journey...may it lead you to your daughter soon!
